Physician Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in Guelph General Hospital (GGH) which is a comprehensive, acute care community hospital. With 182 beds, GGH offers a wide range of primary, secondary and selected tertiary services within a state-of-the-art facility. We have 22 Level 2 and 3 ICU beds, provide care for tele-stroke patients, and are the regional provider for vascular surgery. GGH is affiliated with the Waterloo campus of McMaster University Medical School with medical student and resident teaching opportunities available. GGH has been named one of three Waterloo area “top employers” for 2015.

Located in Southwestern Ontario, Guelph is a large city with a catchment area of 200,000. It is easily accessible, close to Toronto and major airports and has excellent rail, bus and road systems. The city offers an excellent quality of life with beautiful homes, outstanding schools, places of worship, great restaurants and shopping facilities. The area offers great summer and winter recreational facilities and activities of all kinds. The city also enjoys a wide range of diverse cultural and community activities and events. The area boasts one of the highest rates of economic development and employment growth in the Country.

The following opportunities are currently available:

 

GGH is a fully accredited hospital with exemplary standing. It has approximately 1,700 births per year. We have a 10-bed, level 2A Special Care Nursery (SCN), a paediatric ward (8 beds) and paediatric day surgery. On call physicians are expected to take consults from the emergency department, nursery, community physicians, admit patients and when required, attend at high risk deliveries with SCN nurse and RT. Staff also participate in Grand Rounds (Royal College accredited), teaching and quality improvement committees. We are also affiliated with McMaster University.

Guelph is constantly ranked as one of Canada’s best places to live. GGH is also a 40 to 60 minute drive from Hamilton, Kitchener, Toronto and the Halton region with minimal traffic. Private on call rooms (bed, desk, TV, bathroom, kitchen) are provided for physicians who wish to stay in the hospital.

Payment is fee-for-service and hospital on call stipend, with paediatric stabilization funding for full time staff. Paediatricians participate in a 1:6 24h on call.

There is also clinic space across from Guelph General Hospital for paediatricians hoping to set-up practice in Guelph.

Community Neurologist

Guelph General Hospital (GGH) is seeking a Neurologist licensed with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada to provide inpatient neurology consultations and work along with our other outpatient neurologists in the community.

The successful candidates must be licensed to practice in Ontario and be in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and display competence in both inpatient and outpatient neurology.  Interest in stroke, EEGs and MS/movement disorders would be considered an asset.

Overnight Intensivist

GGH has a closed-access model of care for our level 2 and level 3 ICUs. We are seeking locum physicians to join our critical care team to provide overnight coverage.

The successful candidates must be licensed to practice in Ontario and display competence in resuscitation, airway management and conditions common to our Level 3 ICU including sepsis, respiratory failure, and post-thrombolysis acute stroke management. They must also be competent to manage conditions common to our Level 2 ICU such as respiratory failure requiring BiPAP, acute coronary syndromes, and rapid atrial fibrillation. Candidates with a Fellowship in Critical Care are encouraged to apply. Candidates who hold a fellowship in Internal Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada may also have the opportunity to concurrently cover the overnight general internal medicine service.
