Walk this Way is an internal job-shadowing program coordinated by Organizational Development. The purpose of the program is to provide staff with opportunities to have a realistic look at someone else’s role within the hospital and to promote mutual understanding, respect and teamwork between coworkers and across departmental lines.
"What's on your Mind" (WOYM) is an electronic, anonymous question and suggestion box. Staff are able to raise all sorts of issues and questions which are openly addressed by Hospital leaders and available for all to read. Started in September 2007 as a result of staff survey feedback, WOYM has been extremely popular. To date, nearly 500 submissions have been received ranging from parking issues to the price of coffee. Staff also use it as a way to recognize the efforts of others.
WOYM has been responsible for many positive developments from installing bike racks, increasing security measures and securing discount memberships for staff at local gyms.

This one-day training session teaches participants to create conditions where people can speak with complete candour (no matter what the topic) and with complete respect (no matter the person or their position). Crucial Conversations training teaches skills for communicating when the stakes are high, opinions vary and emotions run strong.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, FranklinCovey
This two-day training sessions leads participants in identifying the key principles of effectiveness in which The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People are rooted, and adopt paradigms of effectiveness. Participants will also identify areas in their work and personal lives where applying these habits will improve effectiveness and fulfillment.
The 5 Choices to Extraordinary Productivity, FranklinCovey
This one-day session empowers participants to avoid distractions and to accomplish the goals that matter most in their professional and personal lives.
Service recognition - Our Annual Service Recognition Reception honours employees and physicians with 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service.
Thank You BBQ - The annual BBQ is hosted in the fall to thank staff, physicians and volunteers for their contributions to GGH.
Breakfast with Santa - Santa and Mrs. Claus make a special appearance to hand out door prizes while staff enjoy a delicious breakfast hosted by the Hospitals Senior Team.
Quality Recognition Awards - Staff who exceed expectations and/or required standards can be nominated for a Recognition Award in one of the following categories:

WOW cards - WOW cards are used to recognize excellence. When people live our values of compassion, respect, teamwork or accountability, a WOW card lets them know they have been noticed.
The First 90 Days is a program designed to increase engagement and reduce turnover among new employees. Directors meet with new employees at the 30- and 90-day mark for a "Check In" meeting. During these structured yet informal meetings, the Director will ask questions designed to discover not only what’s not going well, but also what is going well.
Employees also have a chance to ask any questions they may have for their Director as they are settling into their new position. The Director will use the information obtained during the Check In meetings to identify and address any potential problems or issues that arise during the start of employment.
