“We are exceptionally pleased to announce that Marianne Walker will be the new President and CEO of Guelph General Hospital, beginning September 8,” said John Core, Chair of the Hospital Board.
“Marianne is no stranger to our community as she is currently the President of St. Joseph’s Health Centre and Senior Vice President of the St. Joseph’s Health System,” he added. “It’sinteresting that after a comprehensive, national search with many strong candidates from across the country, the Search Committee’s unanimous first choice was right here in our community.”
Core noted “Walker brings strengths, experience and abilities that will make her an ideal fit for our Hospital, strategically, operationally and culturally. The fact that she brings established relationships in our community is an added bonus.”
Walker has extensive executive leadership within acute care, rehabilitation, complex continuing care, long term care, and community support services, and is a visionary leader with a clear sense of purpose and perseverance when faced with diverse challenges. She is known for her commitment to the quality agenda and is an established surveyor with Accreditation Canada with expertise provincially, nationally and internationally.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to join the Guelph General team that is committed to quality care and patient safety,” said Walker. “Guelph General has grown a strong reputation for excellence through its commitment to outstanding care and service, reflected most recently by its exemplary standing from Accreditation Canada. I’m fortunate to continue to work with our community partners to meet the health care needs of our community.”
Walker, a nurse, became CEO of St. Joseph’s Health Centre in 2003, and prior to that, held senior roles at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Walker replaces current Guelph General Hospital President and CEO, Richard Ernst.
