Volunteer of the Year 2012 PDF Print E-mail

At its annual volunteer appreciation luncheon to mark National Volunteer Week, Guelph General Hospital named its Mary Hales “Volunteer of the Year.” This year’s winner was Pat Tangney.

Pat started volunteering in 2007 and since then has donated 974 hours of her time. She began in the pain clinic and then moved to Ambulatory Care and Day Surgery. She also trains new volunteers in those areas.

Last year, Pat helped start a new program at the Hospital aimed at raising the spirits of its chemo patients.

“Pat was instrumental in setting up the Look Good Feel Better program. It brings in makeup consultants to offer free advice and products to help patients deal with the visual effects of chemo,” says the Director of Ambulatory Care, Merle Seegmiller. “Pat is great with patients and always goes the extra mile.”

The Guelph General Hospital Volunteer Association has 200 volunteers who provide support for 25 services throughout the hospital. Its volunteers contribute in excess of 25,000 hours of service each year.
