Jan. 12, 2010 - Paul Hanna, Chair of our Foundation Board, presents Richard Ernst with a cheque for $514,000 thanks to the generosity of our donors. This is the first installment of the $2 million the Foundation hopes to be able to give the Hospital this year for equipment.
January 2010 - The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital was honoured to be the beneficiary of the Shoppers Drug Mart 2009 Tree of Life Campaign. This year, the customer-supported campaign raised close to $6,000. This money will help us purchase equipment for our Family Birthing Unit where each year, close to 2,000 babies are born. We depend on the support of our community and are so grateful to our local Shoppers Drug Marts and their customers for their generosity.
Here, Suzanne Bone, the Foundation’s Executive Director, accepts a cheque from Chuck Wambeke, Pharmacist owner of the Shoppers Drug Mart on Silvercreek, on behalf of the Guelph and Fergus Shoppers Drug Marts.

Helping Babies by using light
Members of the Filipino-Canadian Club of Guelph donated funds that enabled us to purchase a new set of phototherapy lights for our Special Care Nursery. Phototherapy lights help babies with jaundice, a yellow coloring of the skin and eyes related to immature liver function. The yellow colouring is due to high blood levels of bilirubin. These special lights help break down bilirubin into nontoxic substances that leave the body naturally. This new set of lights replaces a set that was 30 years old - now, babies don’t need to be under the lights for as long, and can be back in mom’s arms, or even home, much sooner.
In the photo, Cindy Brooks demonstrates the lights to members of the club including President Gerardo De La Torre.
